CROATOAN: The Lost Colony is a 3rd person adventure game set within Elizabethan times. The player takes the role of Thomas Harriot, colonial explorer tasked with the mission of investigating Roanoke Island. The previous settlers of the island have all mysteriously vanished, and Harriot must discover what occurred.

Players use a series of tools to solve puzzles and progress through the world and their story. Along the way, the player can hunt down the clues that exist throughout the environment as collectable journal entries. These journal entries expand the game world and events which took place before the game, allowing the player to attempt to draw conclusions about the mystery of the missing settlers of Roanoke.
